“Extremely happy with the result!”

Prf.Dr. Nolst Trenité was recommended to me by a family member. I was told that he was the best of the best in rhinoplasty in Amsterdam so I quickly rang the clinic to book a consultation.

During the consultation he listened to what was bothering me about my nose (I had a small hump and a long tip) and how I was nervous about the procedure and result. He reassured me that for him, a natural result is what they thrive for and his years of experience reassured me that this is the doctor I trust with the nose job.

My surgery was booked about 1.5months later for January 2021. Before the date, I received my confirmed dates for the corona test (4 days before surgery), nose-tampon removal the day after surgery, removal of the cap (a week after surgery) and the removal of stitches (10 days after surgery). This gave me a much better overview of what was to come.

The day of the surgery I arrived at the Jan van Goyen Clinic an hour before surgery and I was really nervous and anxious (I've never had surgery before so didn't know what to expect). The nurses were extremely friendly, welcoming and assured me that this was completely normal to feel this way. They administered my IV and made me feel better as I was very scared. The anaesthesiologist came by my bed and explained how the anaesthesia would be administered and explained that it will take affect within a few seconds. Dr Nolst Trenité then came by to see how I was doing and to go through the procedure with me one more time to confirm that we were completely aligned with what he was going to do (Rhinoplasty + Septoplasty). 10 mins later. I was picked up to be taken to the operating room, where we went through some final questions (name, date of birth, where I was, what we were doing etc). I fell asleep and woke up within (what felt like a second) an hour. I hadn't realised that the surgery was done already when a nurse reassured me it was done. I was unable to breathe through my nose due to the tampons (which the nurses already informed me of before) but I felt fine otherwise. I was in no pain whatsoever but felt a bit weak as I hadn't eaten or drank anything the whole day. The nurses provided me with a yoghurt and some water and were looking after me really well (BIG KUDOS TO THESE INCREDIBLE LADIES!)

2 hours later I was able to go back home (I got picked up by my husband) and start the recovery. The nose tampons were pretty uncomfortable in my opinion (imagine having a terrible cold and being completely congested) but it was not painful. I also slept surprisingly well despite sleeping elevated (on 2 pillows and a neck pillow which I highly recommend) and it helped knowing that the tampons would be removed the day after. I took 2 weeks off work just to be on the safe side.

Getting the nose tampons removed wasn't exactly painful but it wasn't painless either. It's just a very uncomfortable feeling as the tampons are put in to stop any potential bleeding (and trust me they are FAR IN THERE). The nurse was very careful when removing them but the last 2 pulls were extremely painful. I had no after bleeding which was a good sign and felt grateful to be able to breathe through my nose again. I felt extremely light headed after though, so I definitely recommend that you go to the appointment with a family member or friend who can bring you there and home.

Another thing, that I wasn't aware of, was the fact that once your nose tampons are removed you will get congested again (due to the swelling). For the rest of the recover week I just stayed elevated, slept and tried to recover as much as possible.

A week later, I went back for my appointment to get my nose cast removed. I have to say, this was the most painful experience I have ever endured in my life. Not only did the nurse not inform me how she was going to remove it, but just went ahead and did it with such force and roughness (by pulling and pushing the last part of the case on my nasal bone which was broken from the nose job). I screamed and burst into tears from the pain and started seeing black. She looked at me with such surprise and told me that she's never had someone have a reaction like this ever before, which immediately made me think that something was wrong and also immediately made me feel belittled for crying. It was SO painful that I could feel so much pressure pulsing through my nose that I was afraid to pass out. She then taped my nose while I was still crying to mend the swelling and didn't even apologise but kept on saying that normally it's not meant to be painful. I felt so stupid and embarrassed because of those comments. When I calmed down I asked if I could then please see it, and she asked "see what?" when I pointed to my nose. I was so happy to be out of that appointment and away from her, seriously utterly unprofessional. It took me the entire day to recover from the cap removal as I was physically and emotionally drained as well as light headed.

3 days later, I returned to the clinic for the stitches removal, and in all honesty I was afraid to encounter the same nurse again. I was really nervous going to the appointment because I did not want to experience that level of pain again. Luckily, it was another nurse who conducted that task. She asked me how the cap removal went and I told her in full transparency of my experience, She informed me that the nurse (from the cap removal) had told her this as well and she sincerely apologised on behalf of her colleague. I appreciated that but told her that I was also really afraid of coming back due to this experience which she totally understood and apologised again. This didn't really help the initial experience though but she did an amazing job with removing the stitches (I didn't feel a thing) and kept asking me if I was alright which I appreciated.

NEVERTHELESS; I am beyond happy with my decision to get the Nose correction done by Dr.Nolst Trenité. I am almost 3 weeks further and, although there is still a small bit of swelling, I have never been happier with my nose and it's proportion on my face! I love looking at my side profile and if I had to go back in time and make a decision on who to go for I would definitely always choose Dr Nolst Trenité.

If you are doubting of doing the procedure, I would highly recommend for you to book a consultation. It doesn't hurt to get feedback and information on what is possible. Just know that I immediately felt taken serious by Dr Nolst Trenité and he always aims for a natural reflection of a nose that fits to you!

I hope this detailed review was helpful :)
